Southwest Cheeseburgers (4 Servings)
Total Recipe Time: 25 to 30 minutes
- 1 pound ground beef (75% to 80% lean)
- 1⁄4 cup finely chopped green onions
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt and pepper
- 4 hamburger buns, split, toasted
- 1⁄4 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
- 1⁄2 cup chopped tomato
Combine ground beef, green onions and cumin in medium bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Lightly shape into four 1⁄2-inch thick patties.
Place patties on grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, covered, 8 to 10 minutes (over medium heat on preheated gas grill, covered, 7 to 9 minutes), until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F, turning occasionally. Season with salt and pepper, as desired.
Place burger on bottom of each bun; top with cheese and tomato. Close sandwiches.
Cook's Tip: To broil, place patties on rack in broiler pan so surface of beef is 3 to 4 inches from heat. Broil 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until instant-read thermometer inserted horizontally into center registers 160°F.
Cook's Tip: Cooking times are for fresh or thoroughly thawed ground beef. Color is not a reliable indicator of ground beef doneness.
